A message from the founder

Dr. Neil Webber founded the Webber Academy in 1996. He has spent most of his career in public service: first as a teacher with the Calgary Public and Catholic School Boards, then as an elected representative in the Alberta Government. He was Chairman of Telus Corporation and has served on numerous other corporate and public boards, including the Conference Board Council of Education.

Wildcats Baseball was founded in 2021 after Dr. Neil Webber recognized the City of Calgary’s need for youth baseball fields. Five hundred and thirty acres of land were purchased in Rocky View County just west of the city limits to establish a lasting presence in the Calgary baseball community. Ground was broken in August 2020 for a new Webber Academy Athletic park, including four baseball fields, a soccer pitch, and a 50,000-square-foot indoor training facility.

“My love of baseball was ignited as a young boy growing up on a farm in rural Alberta. My grandfather, Henry Mack McAuliffe, was born in Huron, Kansas and played the game at a high level in his youth with a travelling team in the early 1900s. He immigrated to Canada in 1914 and continued to play baseball with other local farmers and ranchers. I still remember listening to the 1947 World Series on the radio with him cheering on number 42 (Jackie Robinson). I also enjoyed playing the game as a young man with my brothers and neighbours who lived close to Endiang, Alberta, in the late 1940s and early 1950s.”
