PROGRAM INFORMATIOn
Wildcats Baseball (Est. 2021) quickly emerged as one of Southern Alberta’s elite baseball programs. With a professional and committed coaching staff led by Program Director Jeff Peach, Wildcats Pitching Coordinator ex-MLB pitcher Chris Reitsma and Wildcats Hitting Coordinator ex-MiLB Manager and Hitting Coach Cole Armstrong. The Webber Wildcats pride themselves on player development. This emphasis on player development has led the program to grow to more than 100 players across six teams and 15 Wildcat alumni currently playing for NCAA, NJCAA, or CCBC university baseball programs across Canada and the United States. With plans to continue to grow and gain notoriety amongst the top baseball programs in Canada, the Wildcats continue to develop players and strive to build an individual plan for all players. As players grow, we value finding new ways to approach development and encourage them to participate in all facets of their growth. Webber Wildcats coaches and staff are committed to finding suitable college placements for all program graduates based on their academic and athletic goals. Webber Wildcats is proud to be one of Alberta’s top year-round baseball programs, committing to successful applicants for an entire year of competitive training and development.
Program Schedule
September - October
FAll Ball
Fall Ball will be dedicated to individual development in competitive situations, including live at-bats, inter-squads and exhibition games. During the week, players are expected to attend large group practices where they will learn fundamental baseball skills and have the opportunity to practice with players from all age and skill groups within the program. This ensures that all players have a solid understanding of our program’s baseball philosophies.
We especially emphasize baseball’s fundamental skills, including but not limited to infield and outfield positioning, Double cuts and cuts and relays, base running and our program’s offensive and defensive priorities and mindsets. Players are encouraged to test these concepts and newly learned skills during the weekends, where they will participate in inter-squads, fall travel tournaments, or weekend sets with other competitive baseball programs. Our Fall Ball season concludes in the first or second week of October, depending on weather and field availability.
October - March
Winter Training
Training will occur Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday during winter, with drop-in sessions available on off days. Winter focus areas include strength and conditioning, pitching mechanics, hitting mechanics, workshops, volunteer events and guest lectures. The weight room at the facility will be available during all facility hours. Players can expect a rigorous strength and conditioning schedule with position-specific training on Saturdays.
Training will continue during the later winter months on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The focus is arm care; our throwing program is designed to strengthen arms and maintain arm health throughout the season. Players can expect in-depth instruction on baseball skills such as fielding, pitching, catching, base running, and hitting with a consistent strength and conditioning program to match the workload. As players progress through the throwing program, they begin throwing bullpens on Wednesdays and Saturdays in late January. Coaches and staff will monitor and discuss team composition during these months. All players will participate in multi-purpose inter-squads designed to evaluate players and prepare them for the upcoming competitive season. The Webber Wildcats coaching staff believes in placing players on teams where they will excel and receive the best development.
MARCH-AUGUST
Competitive summer season
By the end of March, players will be split into their summer teams with their full-time coaching staff. Emphasis is put on preparing players for their competitive season and developing team systems. Concepts learned during Fall Ball (infield and outfield positioning, Double cuts and cuts and relays, and base running) are reinforced as teams can start practicing outside again. Players are afforded every opportunity to compete during both games and practices. They are expected to put newly acquired and refined skills to the test.
