COLLEGE PREP Crowned Champions of THE 2024 DAWGS MOTHER’S DAY CLASSIC
College Prep took part in the 2024 Dawgs Mother’s Day Classic May 9th - 12th. The 4-day event saw some of the top high-school baseball programs in Alberta including ATHX, Badlands Academy, AHP and the tournament hosts Dawgs Red & Black.
College Prep lost game 1 Thursday afternoon to Dawgs Black with a final score of 10-3. Aiden Sawchyn, Beck Button and Ashton King combined to throw 7 innings allowing 7 Earned Runs. The offence was relatively quiet for the prep team with only 4 hits recorded off the bats of Dylan Dekker, Cohen Miller, Caelum Eastman, and Lucas Laukannen.
The team bounced back in game two to even their record against the University of Calgary Dino’s Junior Varsity Team winning 4-1 on Thursday evening. Sawyer Jensen threw another gem recording all 21 outs (with 11 strikeouts!) and allowing only 1 hit on 93 pitches.
Friday, Prep won their game against ATHX 9-4 to solidify an entry to the quarter-finals against U of C JV. After winning the quarter-finals on Saturday evening 7-3, Kai Rempel would take the mound for the Prep team Sunday morning against Dawgs Red. Kai was determined to move the College Prep team to the finals. He would throw a no-hitter to propel Prep into the finals that afternoon, needing only 75 pitches through 7 innings to secure the 4-0 win.
The Prep team saw Dawgs Black again in the finals but this time rose to the occasion against a talented Dawgs team. Strong outings from Cohen Miller and Sawyer Jensen (1 Earned Run, 6K’s and 5H’s) kept Black off balance enough for Sawyer Jensen to record a game-winning Double in the 4th inning to score Dylan Dekker and top Dawgs Black 2-1
